For many US companies, the Mexican energy market is uncharted territory; full of opportunities. However, new regulations combined with a unique legal culture and history of government-owned-industry makes it all a bit tricky to navigate.
The first two rounds of exploration and production bidding have taken place in Mexico and the first model contract presented. This clinic lays a firm foundation of not only Mexico's model contract structure and bidding process - it provides insight into the country's legal peculiarities and the history of the oil and gas industry in Mexico. The goal of this clinic is to give attorneys and executives the map to maneuver through this new process and take advantage of strategic prospects available in Mexico's hydrocarbons sector.
The clinic is taught by Miriam Grunstein - one of the foremost experts in Mexico's recent energy reform. Miriam has advised the Mexican government, including the Senate, Pemex and the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (the equivalent of the US Department of Energy) . In addition, Dr. Grunstein has researched and participated in a variety of forums and think tanks covering the legal and economic implications of Mexico's broad changes in energy policy.
